FARM2PEOPLE’S 2022 ANNUAL REPORT

The sun is shining over LA County this afternoon in early February, but already we have witnessed a new year filled with complexities and hardship to overcome. While levels of food insecurity in Los Angeles have reportedly returned to near pre-2020 levels, still 1 in 5 households are food insecure. While the effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic have waned, the local food supply chain continues to face challenges. Farmers face unstable energy costs, water rights issues, climate exacerbated flooding, droughts and risk of fire. California remains a state of agricultural abundance, but we have a long way to go in providing equitable and just nutrition to all our residents. And so, Farm2People’s mission is as relevant and important as ever.

Below is a summary of Farm2People’s work, highlighting our efforts in 2022. Last year was a pivotal year for us. We earned our own 501(c)3 status, doubled our support of local farmers and tripled our reach to LA based hunger relief agencies. We nearly matched in terms of imperial weight the produce gathered and served compared in 2021. The produce provided in 2022 was composed of more than 60 varieties of regeneratively grown fruits and vegetables, and included culturally appropriate offerings earmarked for distinct communities in Los Angeles. We learned how to do what we do more efficiently and lovingly.

Farm2People’s dialed in approach was made possible by our volunteer staff. That means that only 9% of our budget went towards administrative costs while 91% of our budget went directly to program offerings.

Lastly, we would like to extend our sincerest of gratitude to the individuals and foundations who supported our work in 2022. While only 5.5% of our funding was achieved through individual donation, grants through organizations including the Butterfly Equity Foundation, Growing the Table, Clif Bar Family Foundation and others enabled a productive first year as a 501(c)3.

Our goal is to serve our community with transparency and rigor. We welcome you to see what we have been doing and how we’ve been doing it.
