POLICY & ADVOCACY
Farm2People is a proud member of a few values driven working groups and coalitions at the local and state level. We’re working to expand our capacity to engage with federal issues as well!
FARM2PEOPLE FARM TO COMMUNITY
Formerly ‘General Programs,’ Farm2People’s Farm To Community Program is our legacy nutritious food access offering. Pop up produce distribution events are funded by our generous community of donors and produced in partnership with community based organizations throughout LA. It’s the best mechanism we have for offering targeted, culturally appropriate support to specific groups of underserved friends. Past recipients of our bulk and CSA style boxed produce include AAPI Seniors, Altadena Residents in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire, Indigenous Children & Families, Assisted Living Residents of South Los Angeles and Compton, and Food Insecure Families in Boyle Heights to name a few. All of our Farm To Community produce is sourced from regenerative-practicing California farmers. If you represent a community based organization and would like to learn more as opportunities arise, please reach out!
FARM2PEOPLE GOOD FOOD PROCUREMENT
Our Good Food Procurement Program was built on the values set forth by the Center For Good Food Purchasing. Through this program Farm2People operates like a food hub with the aim to strengthen our local food system by connecting California growers to institutions at scale.
Launched in 2022 with funding from The Office of Kat Taylor’s Growing the Table initiative, our Good Food Procurement Program was supercharged between 2023 and 2026 through a USDA Program called the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement. Today, our program runs independent of government subsidies or grants. We source fruit and vegetable specialty crops from local and regional, regenerative practicing farms – including but not limited to organically certified farms – and deliver that fresh produce to institutional partners including K-12, higher education and healthcare organizations. We prioritize marginalized and underserved farm partners, which is to say priority is given to farm owners who are BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, new to farming (farm established within 5 years), and veterans whenever possible.
What sets us apart from for profit brokers or distributors is not only our values-driven focus, but also that we center the needs of our farm partners. We work with farmer-determined pricing, and our cross dock model helps keep us lean. That means we can deliver real economic value to farmers while making actionable the good food procurement goals of our institutional clients.
“Farm2People is doing great work by bridging the gap between our family farm and the local community. By placing nutritious food in hundreds of people’s hands and helping our farm find a local outlet, [Farm2People] has helped out tremendously.”
